MED-EL Headquarters, Innsbruck
MED-EL is one of the world’s leading providers of implantable hearing solutions. The development center opened in August 2013 at its headquarters in Innsbruck occupies a total of 13,270 square meters on five floors. The building’s Passive House-style construction uses thermal insulation and heat recovery to achieve high energy efficiency.
The new head office is home to the Research, Design, Development and Manufacturing divisions.
Movable partition walls allow conference room layouts to be flexibly rearranged; training labs, measurement labs, and clean rooms are equipped with the latest technology; and the open layout of the glass-walled office areas encourage communication and collaboration. Using HVAC exhaust air to discharge exhaust gas provides some significant advantages. First, installation is significantly easier, as a chimney is no longer required. Exhaust gas heat is used regeneratively through heat recovery in the HVAC unit, with no negative impact on the quality of exhaust air. The energy in the exhaust gas becomes available for free, and the resulting savings can be applied to your ventilation heating needs.
